How I define The Elements of Style

Style is the art of expressing individuality and creativity through thoughtfully curated choices, whether in fashion, writing, or design. It’s more than just aesthetics—style is about intention, harmony, and storytelling. Here are the key elements that shape and define style:

1. Identity and Authenticity

Style begins with self-awareness. It reflects who you are, your preferences, and what you stand for. Authenticity anchors your choices, ensuring that your style feels natural and personal rather than forced or imitative.

2. Consistency and Balance

A cohesive style creates a sense of identity that feels reliable and recognizable. Balancing elements—textures, tones, and proportions—ensures that each component complements the other, creating a harmonious whole.

3. Creativity and Originality

Style is where innovation meets imagination. Incorporating unexpected details, mixing patterns, or experimenting with unconventional pairings sets your style apart, making it distinctly yours.

4. Attention to Detail

The smallest elements—stitching, accessories, layering —can elevate an entire look. Paying attention to details conveys care and intentionality, leaving a lasting impression.

5. Adaptability and Timelessness

Great style evolves while remaining timeless. It respects trends without being dictated by them, finding a way to stay relevant across changing contexts.

6. Emotional Resonance

Style evokes feeling. Whether it’s confidence through a well-tailored outfit or connection through relatable trends, style has the power to resonate deeply within yourself & influence others.

7. Functionality and Purpose

True style marries beauty with practicality. It’s not just about appearance; it’s about how a look or design serves its purpose effectively while remaining visually compelling.

By combining these elements, style transforms from a simple aesthetic choice into a powerful form of self-expression, leaving a meaningful mark on the world. Whether you’re building an outfit, designing a space, or crafting words, remember that great style is always about finding the perfect blend of form and function with a touch of soul.

How do I find my style?

To keep things simple after that novel above, I was introduced to the Kibbe Test. Although I’ve considered myself “fashionable” my whole life - this completely transformed my style. See video here (13 min by Aly Art - I recommend watching the entire video)..
